Nigeria End Malaria Council
Introduction
During the Kigali Summit on Malaria & NTDs in June 2022, the Honourable Minister of Health announced that the Federal Republic of Nigeria would establish a national End Malaria Council. The Nigeria End Malaria Council was launched by His Excellency President Buhari in a televised ceremony in August 2022.
The council is a coalition of senior leaders drawn from:
- government
- the private sector
- civil society
It is currently chaired by Mr Aliko Dangote, an industrialist, philanthropist and global malaria advocate. Mr Dangote is also a member of the Global End Malaria Council. The other members include:
- corporate executives
- a Cardinal from the Catholic Church
- a senior Imam
- executive directors of civil society organisations supporting women and children
- the minister of health
The council initiated operations in September 2022.
