For World Malaria Day 2025, The Citizen (Tanzania) shared a piece on the importance of political will and the role of malaria champions in parliaments.

An all-of-society approach against malaria is not just important, it is essential. Among the most effective champions of this collective effort are parliamentarians. By leveraging their platforms, legislatures, and proximity to communities, they are uniquely positioned to ensure budget prioritisation, mobilise communities, influence policy, and ensure accountability.

In East Africa, the Tanzania Parliamen­tarians Against Malaria (TAPAMA) and the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Malar­ia (UPFM) are leading by example. Their work demonstrates the significance of political will in accelerating progress.
