It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Ms. Joyce Kafanabo, Director at the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA). Joyce was the senior director at the ALMA Head Office in Dar Es Salaam, United Republic of Tanzania. Following a short illness, she very sadly succumbed on Saturday 23rd January 2021, in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania
Joyce was an outstanding leader, diplomat, visionary, and dedicated mother, and grandmother who was much-loved and held in the highest regard by colleagues, friends, government representatives, development partners and the community at large. Her passing leaves a huge gap in our institution. The ALMA family, and her friends and colleagues across the continent are heartbroken.
As a founding member and one of the longest serving officers, she exemplified the service and results driven values of the African Leaders Malaria Alliance. Her passion for fostering and cultivating partnerships towards the continental vision to end malaria by 2030, addressing Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health, Neglected Tropical Diseases and the broader health and development Agenda will be sorely missed. Joyce served in the Diplomatic Service and as Minister Plenipotentiary from the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Tanzania to the United Nations, where she aggressively advanced the health agenda.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the Kafanabo family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time.
The deceased, born on 18th February 1961 is survived by 4 daughters, a son, and her grandchildren. She will be laid to rest in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Saturday 30 January 2021.
May Joyce Kafanabo’s principled, generous, gentle, and beautiful soul rest in eternal peace.
