Dar es Salaam, 24 June 2025 – The African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) proudly joins the global community in marking three years since the launch of the Kigali Declaration on neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and its accompanying Commitment Tracker.
Since its launch in 2022, the Kigali Declaration has grown into a powerful symbol of political commitment, accountability, and partnership. With 84 endorsements (up from 57 at inception) and over US$1.8 billion mobilised in financial, in-kind, and policy support, this movement is fast-tracking NTD elimination and strengthening health systems across the continent.

Pharmaceutical partners have shown unprecedented support, committing over 28 billion units of medicine for NTDs through 2030. These medicines offer hope to millions. But recent cuts in aid funding now threaten their delivery. ALMA calls on all partners and governments to urgently address this gap to ensure that no treatment goes unused or expires, and that no one is left behind.
Moreover, the Commitment Tracker has driven transparency, strengthened accountability, and supported countries to fill resource gaps. From Rwanda to Ghana and Tanzania, African nations are taking ownership and leading the charge.
This anniversary is both a celebration and a reminder that progress is real. With 23 African countries already having eliminated at least one NTD, we know what is possible when commitment meets action.
ALMA remains committed to working with African governments and partners to sustain momentum, scale up action, and ensure that every person, especially those in the most vulnerable communities, can live free from the burden of NTDs.
Together, we will beat NTDs.
