On Monday, September 28, Mr.Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, represented ALMA’s current chair, His Excellency Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, at a high-level dinner in New York City that was organized to discuss what is required to achieve a malaria-free world and launch a report titled “Aspiration to Action: What Will It Take to End Malaria?”, as well as to share the ALMA 2030 Scorecard Towards Malaria Elimination and Swaziland’s National Malaria Elimination Scorecard. Hosted by Raymond Chambers, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Financing the Health Millennium Development Goals and for Malaria, and Bill Gates, Co-Chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the dinner was attended by ALMA’s previous Chair, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia, ALMA’s founding Chair, His Excellency Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, President of the United Republic of Tanzania who signed the foreword of the Aspiration to Action report, Dr. Margaret Chan, Director General of the World Health Organization, Admiral Tim Ziemer, U.S. Global Malaria Coordinator for the President’s Malaria Initiative, and other high-level stakeholders.
