Yesterday during the 25th African Union Summit, AIDS Watch Africa (AWA) and the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) co-hosted a Head of State working luncheon. The session was chaired by H.E. Robert Mugabe of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Chair of the African Union and AWA. H.E. Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, Chair of ALMA and Deputy Chair of AWA provided brief remarks on plans for the Finance for Development Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia next month and called for the African Union Commission to develop a roadmap for malaria elimination. H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, AUC Chairperson, Mr. Michel Sidibe, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, and Dr. Mark Dybul, Executive Director of the Global Fund also provided brief remarks.
